MADISON – The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA), Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA), Division of Housing today announced the launch of WIHousingSearch.org – a free online housing location service that provides current information about rental housing in Wisconsin.

The free web-based service acts as a helpful resource for housing professionals to list properties and for interested residents to find safe, affordable rental housing across the state.  Properties listed on the web site include a wide range of private market units as well as assisted and accessible housing units.

Prospective tenants can search for rentals according to specific needs like affordability and proximity to medical facilities, public transit and schools. Listings can also be sorted by rent amount, ZIP Code, date available and other important factors.

Landlords will have 24-hour, unlimited access to managing, adding and updating property listings, and listings can highlight amenities and include photos.

WIHousingSearch.org is fully supported by a toll-free, multilingual call center, 1-877-428-8844, which is accessible Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST.

The launch was announced today at WHEDA’s annual conference at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison.  WIHousingSearch.org is funded through a partnership with WHEDA, DHS and the DOA Division of Housing, which also collaborated on the creation of the site. The agencies will also continue to promote the service through the media, on their web sites, and with social media.

DHS and its Division of Long Term Care oversee the provision of long-term support/services for the elderly and people with disabilities. DHS/DLTC also supports community-based programs, like WIHousingSearch.org, that offer opportunities for the elderly and people with disabilities to live independently.  For more information, visit http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/programs/ltc.htm

The Division of Housing, within the Department of Administration, offers a broad range of financial and technical assistance to improve and expand housing, increase affordable housing opportunities and provide services to people without housing to address homelessness. The DOA Division partners with local governments, homeless service providers, developers and housing organizations throughout the state to improve housing conditions for low- to moderate-income Wisconsin residents.

WHEDA is a public body corporate and politic created in 1972 by the Wisconsin Legislature that provides low‐cost financing for housing, small business and agricultural development. Since 1972, WHEDA has financed more than 68,000 affordable rental units, helped more than 110,000 families purchase their first homes and made more than 29,000 small business and agricultural loan guarantees.
