Charlotte, NC (April 2012) – Socialserve.com has joined the lineup of businesses certified as a Section 3 by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The program, started in 1968, certifies that a business provides job training and employment for qualified, low- to very-low income Section 3 residents. HUD.gov explains that the goal of the Section 3 program is to “foster local economic development, neighborhood economic improvement, and individual self-sufficiency.” These concepts are congruent with the internal mission of Socialserve.com, making Section 3 a natural fit for the agency.

“We talk about our external mission all the time: to increase access to safe, affordable housing. But our internal mission is just as vital,” said Cherie Page, Socialserve.com Director of Learning and Development. “By giving chances to people who might need them the most, this organization has grown with a staff that brings a deep dedication to the workplace daily,” Page added.

Section 3 affords Socialserve.com the unique opportunity to provide jobs to pre-screened consumers of housing assistance. By providing professional development and on-the-job training, individuals reduce their reliance on that assistance with a goal of achieving total independence and even homeownership.

Socialserve.com is excited to add a new facet to the relationship with the Charlotte Housing Authority and was featured as a Section 3 business on the award-winning “CHA Today” program on May 3. View the video.
