Rhode Island Lead Information
Rhode Island has been very progressive in preventing childhood lead poisoning. Most rental units must be inspected for lead hazards, have any hazards mitigated and receive a certification that the apartment is safe. Landlords can pursue three different types of lead certifications to comply with the Lead Hazard Mitigation Law. Fortunately, there are numerous resources available to landlords to assist in meeting these requirements.

Not sure if your unit is lead mitigated? Visit the Housing Resources Commission's Lead Mitigation Certificate Search.

Not sure how Rhode Island's Lead Hazard Mitigation Law affects you? Visit the Housing Resource Commission's Lead Mitigation Information page to learn more about the law and how it affects you.

NOTE: Owners of most private housing, public housing, Federally owned housing, and housing receiving Federal assistance are required to follow federal requirements for disclosing lead hazards when selling or leasing a unit. For more information on how this law impacts you go to HUD's webpage.
